Microsoft Sharepoint vs. Enterprise 2.0 Startups

cio_logo CIO Magazine has an interesting article on the challenges Enterprise 2.0 “up and commer’s” have in the face of Microsoft and the soon-to-be released Sharepoint 2010.

As Microsoft is moving to commoditize the social collaboration space, SharePoint is an inevitable reality that every company must contend with.  The article covers companies such as Socialtext, Jive Software, Newsgator and Atlassian (all exhibitors at Enterprise 2.0 here in Boston) and their strategies to compete, yet work with SharePoint.

Will Microsoft’s “good enough” strategy diseminate the market as it has in other areas?  Will their SaaS approach to SharePoint and Exchange catch up to the more nimble competitors?
